Capcom: Zombrex Dead Rising Movie will be Free in US and Europe this Summer

Ordinarily I wouldn’t post a movie trailer here, but since it is based on a video game and filmed like one, it seems to be appropriate.

Capcom confirmed today that the movie Zombrex Dead Rising Sun will be distributed free of charge in both Europe and North America this summer. It is based on the Dead Rising video games. Kenji Inafune, Global Head of Research and Devlopment at Capcom wrote and directed the movie.

Here’s the synopsis:

Zombrex Dead Rising Sun follows two brothers as they try to escape the zombie outbreak that has hit Japan. Exploring the darker side of human nature and filmed entirely on location in Japan, Zombrex Dead Rising Sun, both pays homage to the zombie movies of the 1960s and ’70s and provides links with the videogame world of Dead Rising.

Zombrex Dead Rising Sun will be released digitally in a series of eight episodes. The episodes will be available for free. There will be an English voice-over, and separate versions will feature subtitles in French, Spanish, and Italian. Capcom is marketing the movie as part of a strategy for broadening the audience for its franchises through use of alternative media including film, anime, and comics.

Even if you aren’t a fan of Dead Rising, zombie fans are part of the targeted audience. Since the episodes are free, it couldn’t hurt to take a look. The movie is filmed in a first-person format, enhancing the video game feel of the film.

Here is the trailer. I would say it is easily PG-13, as there are scenes of zombies doing what they do. Viewer discretion is advised and all that jazz.
