Xperia Getting Earlier Android Upgrade

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 was shipped with Android 1.6. It was previously announced that Sony Ericsson would be upgrading the devices to Android 2.1 in the 4th quarter this year. Sony Ericsson announced today that the 2.1 upgrade will be a little earlier, in the 3rd quarter. The X10, X10 mini, and X10 mini pro will all be upgraded in Q3 this year. The upgrades will be rolled out gradually among the different markets, so there is no specific date to look forward to. Some may after all stretch into Q4.

That would have been good news by itself, but Sony Ericsson threw in another big announcement. This same upgrade will allow video recording in HD. Not only that, but in Q4 the X10 will also be able to connect and display content to your television wirelessly. Timescape and Mediascape will also be upgraded at that time.

This is really good news for Xperia fans. The big question a lot of people are asking now, though, is when is Froyo (Android 2.2) coming? I don’t think Sony Ericsson is alone in this. Other brands are being asked the same questions. We’ll have to wait and see.

With the announcement of the Xperia X8 this morning, this is turning out to be a great day for Sony Ericsson.
