Dell Streak and Aero Coming to AT&T Soon

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Dell is releasing the Streak to the US market this week. Dell’s site still simply says late July, and with this being the last week in July you can bet it is coming this week. Dell released some information and then pulled it back, so we’ll have to wait and see if these numbers hold.

The Dell Streak is scheduled to become available on AT&T for $300 with 2-year contract or $550 without. This will immediately become AT&T’s premier Android device. Dell took the time to answer some questions about the Streak. Here is some of the latest info:

  • Streak is not compatible with T-Mobile
  • Carbon black is the only color coming this week. Cherry red is coming soon.
  • Streak will launch with Android 1.6, with Froyo coming this year

Those who opted into the pre-sale will have a 24-hour head start on purchasing the Streak, and can pick up a Bluetooth headset for 99 cents.

The Aero also got some play in the press today. It is scheduled to hit AT&T for $99 with 2-year contract. It should be available by August 9. Considering the fact that AT&T announced the Aero before the Aria and the Captivate, it’s about time the Aero showed up. The Aero looks pretty good, but it is aimed at the lower end of the spectrum, right there with the Motorola Backflip.

So, while AT&T missed its 5 Android devices in the first half of 2010 goal, we are finally seeing the Android numbers grow. By the time the Aero launches, we can expect to see the Motorola Backflip, HTC Aria, Samsung Captivate, Dell Streak, and Dell Aero. That’s 5 Android devices. With any luck Sony Ericsson will launch its Android line on AT&T soon after with the Xperia X10, Xperia X10 mini, and Xperia X10 mini pro. One can only hope. Things are finally looking up for Android fans who are on AT&T’s network.
