PlayStation Phone Is Coming?

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Engadget has posted pictures of the forthcoming Sony Ericsson PlayStation hybrid phone. This phone has been rumored for a long time, and it looks like something at least made it to prototype.

According to Engadget, the phone should come with Gingerbread, and feature a Sony app store. It has a long way to go, but there is a slight possibility it can come out this year. Most agree that 2011 is more likely, but Sony is reportedly going to be surprising us quite a bit in the near future, so we’ll see.

The screen on this prototype is roughly the size of the Xperia X10, up to 4.1″. Engadget says the phone they have pictures of has a 1GHz processor, which the Xperia X10 also has. Looking at the phone one is reminded of both the PSP Go and the Xperia X10. This could be a hybrid between the two. Considering the PSP Go just dropped to $200, perhaps the phone is the next generation of PSP.

Having waited almost a year for the Xperia X10, it would be nice if I could enjoy it a while before needing to upgrade. However, this phone could very well be worth it. As news comes out I’ll be sure to cover it. You can check out more of Engadget’s photos here.

Sony Ericsson

Engadget is on a roll tonight. In another breaking story, Engadget reports that Sony Ericsson will be releasing the fabled PSP phone soon. It is rumored to feature Android 3.0, and will feature a brand new gaming division of the Android Market.

Engadget is saying this will technically be an Xperia phone, but will feature PSP branding. If this is true, it will make up for a lot of the negative publicity Sony Ericsson has received regarding the Android 1.6 offering on the Xperia X10. Google is reportedly holding a press conference tomorrow, so the timing of this report is intriguing. If Google is discussing Gingerbread tomorrow, this could lend even more credence to Engadget’s story. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going on. As I learn more, so will you. Stay tuned.
