Update Digital Photo Frame by Email

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

According to AT&T, Pandigital is releasing a new photo frame today. This is not just any photo frame though, it is a wi-fi connected digital photo frame that can accept emailed photos. Want to show grandma the new pics of your family vacation? Now you can simply email the photos to her photo frame and she can see them at home. AT&T is powering the wi-fi service and it doesn’t appear to have an additional fee to use it.

The product is called the Pandigital Photo Mail LED Digital Photo Frame. At the time of this writing it does not appear on the Pandigital website. AT&T announced it at 5:30 this morning, so hopefully Pandigital will get announce it soon.

Product Specs:

  • 8-inch back-lit LED display
  • 800×600 resolution
  • 4:3 aspect ratio
  • 1GB internal memory
  • 6-in-1 media card reader (Compact Flash, SD, XD, MS, MSPro, and MMC)
  • Capable of image rotation and resizing
  • Playback of AVI video and MP3 audio files
  • Calendar
  • Clock with alarm
  • Programmable on/off timer

One might expect this to cost quite a bit. The frame has a suggested retail price of $149.99. At this price the frame can receive 300 photos with no service fee. Additional photos can be purchased.

Snapfish.com will host the photos that have been shared to the frame. It will also let you print photos and such if you would like.

I have been interested in digital photo frames for a long time now, but they haven’t really been worth the high price being asked for by the retailers. This one looks to be a pretty solid one at a reasonable price. I wish this had been launched before Christmas though, as it would have made a great gift.
