Google Goggles on Xperia X10

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Two things that I am very interested in are Sony Ericsson mobile phones and Google. They have come together in a fun way. The as-yet-unreleased Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, Sony’s foray into the Google Android mobile phone operating system, was seen demoing a new application from Google called Google Goggles.

As featured on Engadget, you can view the video below. The video shows a barcode search and a simple image search for Toblerone chocolate, as well as a couple of archived searches. The results came out just as I expected.

Google describes Goggles simply: “Use pictures to search the web.” That pretty much describes it. With the obvious disclaimers by Google stating that this is a brand new product and may not work, one might be surprised at how well this does work, at least on the above video.

As AT&T languishes without an Android phone, I have unfortunately been missing out on gems like this. I can’t wait to try it out in person on that beautiful Xperia X10.
