Google and NORAD Team Up to Track Santa

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Google and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) have teamed up again this year to track Santa as he makes his famous run on Christmas Eve. NORAD has been doing this since 1955, being joined by Google in 2007. This year there are kid games on the tracking web site as well as the usual countdown.

Santa tracking officially begins at 2:00 am EST on December 24. You have a couple of options in the method of tracking. Google Earth and Google Maps are available on your desktop. Google Maps will also track Santa on your phone. Just search for “Santa” whichever method you choose.

Here is the video from last year’s Santa tracking:

From your computer, go to to start tracking. From your mobile browser, you can go to The site’s content changes daily to keep your kids entertained as they wait for the big day. My kids are pretty excited from all the contact they’ve received from Santa, so tracking him will really make their day. Hopefully your kids will have as much fun as mine waiting for Santa this year – at least until they have to go to bed.

Send a Call from Santa with Google Voice

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

The modern technological age we live in has yet again enabled us to convince our children they should behave around Christmas time. Google Voice now lets you call Santa and leave a message. You can also have Santa call your little boy or girl, or even a grown-up if you wish.

Go to to get started. You answer some basic questions, and off it goes. You can choose to send a phone call or an email from Santa. It is pretty straightforward, and effective. My boys were very happy to get a call from Santa. After the video email message (see post here) and now a phone call, they are thoroughly convinced that Santa has kept up with modern technology.

Your kids can also leave their own message on Santa’s voicemail via Google Voice. Call toll-free at (855) 34-SANTA. Your child will get to hear Santa’s greeting and then can leave a message.

Santa’s messages have been very helpful this year. Hopefully your kids will enjoy hearing from Santa as much as mine did.

Santa’s Back Online via the Portable North Pole

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Last year at Christmas time my wife and I treated our 3 year old to a very special message from Santa in the form of a personalized video email. The folks at UGroup Media have been hard at work and made some improvements this year. Not only does Santa know your kid’s name and location, he provides photographic evidence that he is always watching. You simply fill out a form and Santa makes sure your kids are on their best behavior all month. See the video below for a preview of the service.

You can choose the appropriate message based on age. There are categories for toddlers, children, and grown-ups. Watching my 4 year old light up when he saw photos of his T-ball team was definitely worth the effort. He is promising to work on his listening skills thanks to Santa. The 2 year old just beamed the whole way through his message. Hearing Santa say his name was more than enough to get him excited.

If you haven’t tried it yet, give it a shot. The video is really well done, and the personalization is very well done. Whether your kids have been naughty or nice, an email from Santa might just do them some good. If nothing else, it’s a great way to kick off the Christmas season.
